Cohen ermahnt uns, zu \u201ebereuen\u201c mit all dem Nachdruck eines Propheten aus dem Alten Testament. Schlie\u00dflich sah sich Cohen schon \u201eimmer\u201c, als \u201eder kleine Jude, der die Bibel schrieb\u201c (siehe auch &#8211;&gt;\u00a0 \u201eThe Favourite Game\u201c). Mitten in der kollabierenden Zivilisation, wie wir sie kennen, sehnt er sich nach den schrecklichen alten Sicherheiten \u2013 der Berliner Mauer, Stalin, dem Heiligen Paulus, Christus, Hiroshima. Es gibt nur eine Pflanze, die sich durch diese verw\u00fcstete Landschaft k\u00e4mpft, eine Pflanze, der Cohen sein ganzes Leben lang sein botanisches Interesse gewidmet hat: \u201edie Liebe ist der einzige Motor des \u00dcberlebens\u201c. Die apokalyptische Trostlosigkeit des Songs wird durch sein Up-tempo-Backing abgemildert. \u201eIch denke nicht, dass man die Tatsache au\u00dfer Acht lassen kann\u201c, sagte Cohen, \u201edass es ein hei\u00dfes kleines St\u00fcck ist und man (dazu) tanzen kann; wenn dies nicht der Fall w\u00e4re, denke ich, w\u00e4re es wirklich d\u00fcster&#8230;Wenn ich den Text einfach wie Martin Luther an eine Kirchent\u00fcr genagelt h\u00e4tte, w\u00e4re es ein sehr grausiges Manifest.\u201c Cohen hat eigentlich einen sehr schlauen Trick angewandt \u2013 er hat existentielle Verzweiflung unterhaltsam gemacht.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201eThe Future\u201c ist im Jahre 1992 in Los Angeles aufgenommen worden. Cohen exhorts us to \u201crepent\u201d with all the emphasis of an Old Testament prophet. After all, Cohen always saw himself as &#8222;the little Jew who wrote the Bible&#8220; (see also -&gt; &#8222;The Favorite Game&#8220;). In the midst of the collapsing civilization as we know it, he longs for the terrible old security &#8211; the Berlin Wall, Stalin, Saint Paul, Christ, Hiroshima. There is only one plant that struggles through this devastated landscape, a plant to which Cohen has devoted his botanical interest all his life: &#8222;Love is the only motor for survival&#8220;. The apocalyptic desolation of the song is tempered by its up-tempo backing. &#8222;I don&#8217;t think you can ignore the fact,&#8220; said Cohen, &#8222;that it&#8217;s a hot little piece and you can dance to it; if it wasn&#8217;t, I think it would be really dark &#8230; If I just nailed the text to a church door like Martin Luther, it would be a very gruesome manifesto. \u201dCohen actually used a very clever trick &#8211; he did made existential despair entertaining.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8222;The Future&#8220; was recorded in Los Angeles in 1992.
