Juli 1988 im Montr\u00e9al&#8217;s Forum de Montr\u00e9al, Canada erstmals einen Leonard Cohen-Song in seiner Karriere live in Concert vor. Das geschah ein zweites Mal im weiteren Verlauf seiner ,,Never Ending &#8211; Tournee&#8220; am 4. August 1988 in Los Angeles. Obwohl Dylans Version wesentlich rockiger und aggressiver vorgetragen wurde, macht die modifizierte Dylan-Version die songwriterische Verwandtschaft der beiden Rockpoeten deutlich. Sowohl Dylan wie auch Cohen verstehen es Poesie und Popmusik zu einer Einheit werden zu lassen. Aus meiner Sicht, fernab der oft zu Klischees gewordenen Vergleichsversuche, die einzige legitime M\u00f6glichkeit Cohen mit Dylan zu vergleichen, sofern dies \u00fcberhaupt m\u00f6glich ist. Sie schaffen eine Einheit, bei der \u00fcber die Tonaufnahme hinweg, der Song w\u00e4hrend der Performance \u00fcber sich hinausw\u00e4chst, und dabei dem Zuh\u00f6rer der Zugang zu Musik und Inhalt einer weiteren Ebene erm\u00f6glicht wird. In einem Artikel von Paul Zollo auf AMERICANSONGWRITER:COM zitiert er Dylan, wenn dieser \u00fcber \u201cHallelujah\u201d philosophiert: \u201cEs ist eine wundersch\u00f6n konstruierte Melodie, die sich langsam aufbaut, sich entwickelt und wieder zum Ursprung zur\u00fcck geht.\u201c ( (\u201cIt\u2019s a beautifully constructed melody that steps up, evolves, and slips back, all in quick time.) \u201eDieses Lied hat einen verbindenden Refrain, der eine ganz eigene Kraft hat. Der \u201egeheime Akkord\u201c und der klare Aspekt, dass-ich-dich- besser-kenne-als-du-dich-selbst-kennst, haben f\u00fcr mich viel Resonanz.\u201c (But this song has a connective chorus, which, when it comes in, has a power all of its own.
