The hard-rock formation „Deep Purple, “whose rock hymn “Smoke On The Water” turned fifty in 2021, introduced their new album “Turning To Crime,” to the media, in form of an interview. One of the twelve cover song that were arranged by “Deep Purple,” is “Watching The River Flow,” from Bob Dylan. Roger Glover and Ian Gillan knew to tell me a story about that for German BREAK OUT MAGAZINE via ZOOM:

“That song is my favorite Bob Dylan song,” says bassist Roger Glover. “There is no deeper meaning. With that song, it’s just like with the song ‘Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu,’ it is an expression of the zeitgeist that currently surrounded the band during the conception of the album ‘Turning To Crime’ (2021). And yes, ‘Watching the River Flow,’ is definitely a type of homage to its originator, just as every other song on this album is an homage. If I’m honest, the songs that I listened to as a teenager impacted me more than the ones I heard in the last 10-15 years. Consequently, all the songs on this album are ones that mean something to us. ‘Watching The River Flow’ is just one of the songs that exist in my system, just as many other songs by Bob Dylan. It is one of the songs, that has the potential to continue inspiring me to go on.” Would other Bob Dylan songs also be considered, I ask Roger Glover? “At the most, 400 more of his songs,” said Glover and added: “Ok, I admit, I’ve been a Bob Dylan fan since I was a student and heard the ‘Freewhelin’ album. It changed my life. – When fans come to me and say, hey, your music changed my life, I really always say: I know how that feels. Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of the last century and also changed my life.

KW-33-2022: Neuerscheinung im September: NEW BOOK ON BOB DYLAN – Neues Buch über BOB DYLAN – Never Ending Tour – : Pre-Order possible – BOB DYLAN – On The Road – Never Ending Tour 1988 – 2021 – feat. an Essay on Dylan & Cohen – Picasso & Matisse – a Never Ending Comparison between two Singer/ Songwriter (Book will be out in 09/2022) feat. also an Interview with KISS-Founder Gene Simmons who talks about Leonard Cohen & Bob Dylan in the book.
