Walking Montreal`s Streets – Looking for Cohen Places – Vol. 5<\/p>\n
The Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel is one of the oldest churches in the city. It is around five kilometers east of Mile End in the \u201cold harbor\u201d of Montreal. In the 19th century, the chapel became a site of pilgrimage for sailors that arrived at the old harbor \u2013 that\u2019s where the nickname \u201cSailor\u2019s Church\u201d came from. The church was immortalized by Leonard Cohen in his song \u201cSuzanne,\u201d on the 1967 debut-album \u201cSongs of Leonard Cohen.\u201d The line \u201cAnd the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor,\u201d references the statute on the tower of the church, which faces the Saint-Lawrence River.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More about that in my bilingual blog ( www.cohenpedia.de) and on my google map.<\/p>\n

Die Kapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours ist eine der \u00e4ltesten Kirchen der Stadt. Sie liegt etwa f\u00fcnf Kilometer \u00f6stlich von Mile End im \u201eAlten Hafen\u201c (Vieux-Port) von Montreal. Im 19. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich die Kapelle zu einem Wallfahrtsort f\u00fcr Seeleute, die im Alten Hafen anlegten \u2013 daher r\u00fchrt auch ihr Beiname \u201eSeemannskirche\u201c (Sailor\u2019s Church). Die Kirche wurde von Leonard Cohen in seinem Lied \u201eSuzanne\u201c verewigt, das auf seinem Deb\u00fctalbum \u201eSongs of Leonard Cohen\u201c aus dem Jahr 1967 erschien. Die Textzeile \u201eAnd the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor\u201c bezieht sich auf die Statue auf dem Kirchturm, die dem Sankt-Lorenz-Strom zugewandt ist.
