This album included songs that resonated with audiences<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">right across continental Europe.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Berlin, Marliese, Battalions of Strangers,<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Cruise Missiles<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">and the title track have all been described as classics of that<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">era and sales topped a million. Watts\u2019 reputation was firmly established as a<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">leading exponent of overtly political pop songs. Watts disbanded the original<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Fischer-Z<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">line up in the summer of 1981 because he felt the band had drifted<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">too far from their original art punk ideals.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Watts\u2019 first two solo albums<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">One More Twist <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(1982) and <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">The Iceberg Model<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">(1983) included the anthemic single<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">One Voice <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">and experimental <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">The<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Iceberg Model<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">track. In the 1980\u2019s, Watts was very deeply affected by<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">the political events unfolding as Thatcher tried to beat down the trade unions<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">in Britain. His<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Dark Crowds of Englishmen <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">song is about the miners\u2019 strike<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">and the disappearance of a way of life.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Watts reformed<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial-ItalicMT;\">Fischer-Z <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">with a new line up in 1987 and had single<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">successes<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">The Perfect Day <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(1988) based on lonely-hearts ads and <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Say No<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">(1989), a call to arms for the poor and the powerless \u2013 taken from the albums<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Reveal<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(1988) and <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Fish\u2019s Head (<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">1989) respectively. Many songs from<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">this album such as<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">I\u2019m a Reptile <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">and <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Angel of Gardenia <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">are firm favourites<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">with the fans. For his next album<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Bigbeatpoetry <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(1999), he branched out<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">combining poetry, prose and song lyrics with a DJ and beats. An era of multimedia<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">projects began with<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Ether Music &amp; Film <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(2002), where he traveled<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">internationally, recording musicians in the streets and in their own homes<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">using only his laptop.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Real Life Is Good Enough<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(2005) was a noisy two-piece, electric guitar and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">drums album which Watts made with Sam Walker. It was compared with<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial-ItalicMT;\">The<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Black Keys<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">early albums<\/span><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial-ItalicMT;\">. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">The sister album, <\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">It Has To Be <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">(2006), consisted of<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">songs drawn from Watts\u2019 interaction with strangers he met in ten different<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">European countries who shared some of their life experiences and he named<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">a song after them. For the first time the album packaging included poems and<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">short stories written by Watts.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Morethanmusic <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">album (2010) added improvised orchestral cut-ups and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">a filmic dimension to Watts\u2019 work and included a first single<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">Head On<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">, inspired<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">by him observing a seven-year old child watching the live execution of<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Saddam Hussein on her mother\u2019s mobile phone, and a second single<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial-BoldMT;\">URSo<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT;\">,<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">the most popular live song from the album.
