Gegr\u00fcndet wurde sie 1993 von den Filmemachern Bill Leeson und David Wilson. Ihre Idee war, die eigene Prominenz zu nutzen, um Geld und Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen. Dies wird nun im musikalischen Rahmen mit der CD &#8222;War Child &#8211; Heroes Vol.1&#8220; weitergef\u00fchrt.<\/p>\n<p>Auf der Compilation bitten Musikalische Legenden ,wie beispielsweise Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen oder David Bowie, aktuelle &#8222;Jungmusiker&#8220; wie Duffy, The Kooks oder FranzFerdinand, einen ihrer Evergreen-Hits nachzuspielen.<\/p>\n<p>Beispielsweise klingt es \u00fcberraschend, wenn die Scissor Sisters aus dem 1978er Glam-Rock Titel &#8222;Do The Strand&#8220; von Roxy Music eine 2009er Disco-Nummer zaubern. Treffende elektronische Beats und die markant hohe Stimme vom Scissor Sisters S\u00e4nger geben diesem St\u00fcck das gewisse Etwas. Bob Dylan sucht sich den K\u00fcnstler Beck aus, dem der Titel &#8222;Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat&#8220; wie ma\u00dfgeschneidert sitzt. Beck gibt dem Blues-St\u00fcck ein wenig mehr Pepp. Er erh\u00f6ht die originale Geschwindigkeit und formt somit eine Rock\u00b4n\u00b4Roll Variante des 1966 erschienendem Dylan-Klassiker.<\/p>\n<p>Hervorzuheben ist auch die Coverversion der Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Der Hit &#8222;Sheena Is A Punkrocker&#8220; von The Ramones wurde musikalisch sehr nah am Original eingespielt, doch gibt die weibliche Gesangstimme der Yeah Yeah Yeahs diesem Punk-Rock Titel das gewisse Etwas.<\/p>\n<p>Eigenwillig sind hingegen die Coverversionen von Hot Chip und Peaches. Erstere wollten vom flotten, post-punkigen Original &#8222;Transmission&#8220; von Joy Division r\u00fcber zur Elektro-Pop Nummer schwenken. Ihr Titel bekam dabei zuviel digitale Instrumente und Minimal-Beats verpasst und wirkt sehr gew\u00f6hnungsbed\u00fcrftig. Gleicherma\u00dfen tauschte Peaches kr\u00e4ftige Gitarrenriffs gegen bass-lastige Elektro-Einspieler. Aus dem Hard-Rock Titel &#8222;Search and Destroy&#8220; von Iggy Pop wurde ein Indie-Elektro-St\u00fcck mit dumpfem Bass-Hintergrund. F\u00fcr Fans von Peaches sicherlich ein gelungenes St\u00fcck, f\u00fcr Fans von Iggy Pop eher weniger.<\/p>\n<p>Alles in allem ist &#8222;War Child &#8211; Heroes Vol.1&#8220; eine solide Compilation mit einem Gro\u00dfaufgebot namenhafter Bands und K\u00fcnstler.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leonard Cohen was a great supporter of War Child.
