Heute, 22.12.2014, vor 5 Jahren verstarb #JOE_COCKER. … „Cocker galt als einer der profiliertesten Vertreter des Rhythm `N Blues“ hieß es in der Todesmeldung in der TAGESSCHAU. Kurz zuvor erschien auf der Frankfurter Buchmesse meine Biografie über Joe Cocker „Mit Gänsehaut durch die Jahrzehnte“, die ich dann binnen 2er Wochen für den Verlag überarbeitete und aktualisierte.
#JOE_COCKER passed away 5 years ago today. … „Cocker was considered one of the most distinguished representatives of the rhythm` n`blues „, it said in the death announcement in the TAGESSCHAU (GERMAN TV). Shortly before, my biography of Joe Cocker „With goosebumps through the decades“ appeared at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which I then had to revise and update for the publisher within two weeks.
Joe Cocker performed a total of three Leonard Cohen songs during his 60ies, 70ies, 80ies and 90ies years. Bird On A Wire (on „Joe Cocker“-Album (1969) and on „Mad Dogs And English Men“-Album (1970) , I’m Your Man (on „One Night Of Sin“-Album (1989) and First We Take Manhattan (on „Ordinary World“-Album 1989).

Sylvie Simmons, whose biography of Leonard Cohen has been published in 25 languages by now and a singer-songwriter herself was GL Strand Kunstforeningen’s special guest in Copenhagen. As one of the events alongside the “There is a Crack in Everything” exhibition she signed books, told a few stories about her work with Cohen and also performed some of his songs.
Later in the evening she was invited to the so-called „Black Diamond“, the Royal Library, where host John Owens interviewed her on stage and tried to give insights in Cohen’s work. Between the two of them they made an attempt on demystifying some of the song lyrics. The audience in a sold out library could enjoy several anecdotes of Simmons’s time as Leonard Cohen’s biographer as well two more of her songs, accompanied by her ukulele.
