„In December of 2013, Leonard Cohen played what was to be his last show ever right here in New Zealand“, wrote NEW ZEALAND HEROLD on 11. of Novembre in 2016 in memorian to his tour finale. „The Grand Tour made a run of four shows in New Zealand with the final stop being in Auckland at Vector Arena, where he played a three-hour set.“
„After two-and-a-half hours he skipped from the stage to another standing ovation, but it was another 45 minutes before we let him go. For the last of four encores he departed from his own material to lead the audience in Save the Last Dance for Me. But the most appropriate sign-off came on the second encore. Famous Blue Raincoat normally ends, „sincerely, L Cohen“. This time he sang, „sincerely, a friend““, wrote John Roughan in NEW ZEALAND HEROLD.

Recently, the Grammy Award nominations were announced and we’re pleased to report that Leonard received two nominations.
Leonard’s song „You Want It Darker,“ from the album of the same name, was nominated for Best Rock Performance; and,
Leonard’s song „Steer Your Way,“ from the album You Want It Darker, received a nomination for Best American Roots Performance.

Leonard previously received a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. Also, Songs Of Leonard Cohen was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.

Leonard Cohen was a great supporter of War Child. His anthem “Take This Waltz” appeared on War Child’s “Heroes” album, sung by his son Adam and released in 2009 and is still available. Eine der weihnachtlichen Grußkarten wurde von Leonard Cohen entworfen.
Sternchen covern Stars für eine guten Zweck: War Child Heroes heißt das Ergebnis, bei dem Duffy Paul McCartney nachsingt, The Kooks die Kinks interpretieren oder Franz Ferdinand Blondie covern.
War Child ist eine internationale, gemeinnützige Organisation, die Kindern in Kriegsgebieten hilft. Gegründet wurde sie 1993 von den Filmemachern Bill Leeson und David Wilson. Ihre Idee war, die eigene Prominenz zu nutzen, um Geld und Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen. Dies wird nun im musikalischen Rahmen mit der CD „War Child – Heroes Vol.1“ weitergeführt.
Auf der Compilation bitten Musikalische Legenden ,wie beispielsweise Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen oder David Bowie, aktuelle „Jungmusiker“ wie Duffy, The Kooks oder FranzFerdinand, einen ihrer Evergreen-Hits nachzuspielen.
Beispielsweise klingt es überraschend, wenn die Scissor Sisters aus dem 1978er Glam-Rock Titel „Do The Strand“ von Roxy Music eine 2009er Disco-Nummer zaubern. Treffende elektronische Beats und die markant hohe Stimme vom Scissor Sisters Sänger geben diesem Stück das gewisse Etwas. Bob Dylan sucht sich den Künstler Beck aus, dem der Titel „Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat“ wie maßgeschneidert sitzt. Beck gibt dem Blues-Stück ein wenig mehr Pepp. Er erhöht die originale Geschwindigkeit und formt somit eine Rock´n´Roll Variante des 1966 erschienendem Dylan-Klassiker.
Hervorzuheben ist auch die Coverversion der Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Der Hit „Sheena Is A Punkrocker“ von The Ramones wurde musikalisch sehr nah am Original eingespielt, doch gibt die weibliche Gesangstimme der Yeah Yeah Yeahs diesem Punk-Rock Titel das gewisse Etwas.
Eigenwillig sind hingegen die Coverversionen von Hot Chip und Peaches. Erstere wollten vom flotten, post-punkigen Original „Transmission“ von Joy Division rüber zur Elektro-Pop Nummer schwenken. Ihr Titel bekam dabei zuviel digitale Instrumente und Minimal-Beats verpasst und wirkt sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Gleichermaßen tauschte Peaches kräftige Gitarrenriffs gegen bass-lastige Elektro-Einspieler. Aus dem Hard-Rock Titel „Search and Destroy“ von Iggy Pop wurde ein Indie-Elektro-Stück mit dumpfem Bass-Hintergrund. Für Fans von Peaches sicherlich ein gelungenes Stück, für Fans von Iggy Pop eher weniger.
Alles in allem ist „War Child – Heroes Vol.1“ eine solide Compilation mit einem Großaufgebot namenhafter Bands und Künstler.

Leonard Cohens Lieder zu tanzen, war die mutige Herausforderung von Louis Robitaille, dem künstlerischen Leiter der BJM Company (früher bekannt als Montreal Ballets Jazz). Die Idee, die vor fast vier Jahren ins Leben gerufen wurde, hatte die Zustimmung des Sängers erhalten. Leonard Cohens Dance Me \ musique wurde vom 5. Dezember 2017 bis Samstagabend 9. Dezember 2017 im Théâtre Maisonneuve am Place des Arts/ Montreal/ Canada präsentiert.
Damit ist Dance Me eine ideale Ergänzung zu dem „Tower Of Song“-Gedenkkonzert and der “ A Crack In Everything“-Ausstellung, um Leonard Cohens Lieder am Leben zu erhalten.
BJM ist die einzige Firma, die Cohen tanzen darf. Exklusivrechte wurden für die nächsten fünf Jahre ausgehandelt. Nach Montreal ist bereits eine Tournee mit Stationen in Toronto, Ottawa und Sherbrooke sowie in den USA und Frankreich geplant.

In five seasons that reflect five stages in the late singer– songwriter’s life, Dance Me will paint a multifaceted portrait of the man who wrote Hallelujah. Dance, music and videos are all part of the show. Time and time again, from Gilles Vigneault to Jacques Brel, the BJM have demonstrated their love of music. This new work brings Leonard Cohen’s compositions to the stage in Dance.
